Virtual Public Meetings: Media Guidelines for Participation

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the City has moved to a primarily virtual format for public engagement sessions. Note that feedback from the public is also collected via telephone, for those who don't have online access.

Media are encouraged to attend the city’s virtual public meetings and virtual public engagement sessions for the purpose of observation, recording and reporting.

Should a reporter request an interview with a member of the public, or a proponent of a development, the city can help to facilitate the interview upon request.

Guidelines for media participation in virtual public meetings and engagement sessions are:

  • Upon registration for a session, identify that you are attending as a member of the media
  • While you may use comments from public participants in your reporting, please do not attribute quotes without the explicit permission of the speaker
  • The member of City Council who is lead on a project may be available for an interview following the session; please send a written request via email to
  • Reporters who wish to interview a participant or proponent can make the request directly in the chat function during a virtual meeting, or via email to
