Residents can now dispose of their household hazardous waste (HHW) on a regular
and convenient basis at the new HHW Facility at the Robin Hood Bay Regional
Waste Management Facility.
WHERE:
The HHW Facility at the Robin Hood Bay Regional Waste Management Facility located
at 340 East White Hills Road.
WHEN:
8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. every Saturday from August 15 to December 19, 2009.
The HHW Facility will operate from 8:00am to 4:00pm on Saturdays in 2010 from June 5 to November 27.
The primary objective of the HHW Program is to provide residents of the City of St. John’s
with a safe method to dispose of unwanted special wastes that
cannot be disposed of with regular garbage.
|
 |
Household Hazardous Wastes (HHW) are the left-over products
from hazardous products used in the home. Some of these wastes
exhibit poisonous, combustible, explosive and/or flammable
properties. When compared with other types of wastes, HHW are a
small component of the waste stream. If HHW are discarded into
the residential solid waste stream, the storm sewer system, or
the natural environment, environmental damage may occur. If
products are improperly stored in the home there may be
negative impacts on the health of the residents.
