Welcome to the City of St. John's Waste Diversion website.
From this page you will find information about what is underway,
and being planned, to provide a comprehensive waste diversion
program for the City.
Definition of Waste Diversion
|
Waste diversion is the process of reducing, reusing, and recycling waste material ('garbage') rather than sending it to a landfill. Composting food and yard waste is a form of recycling.
Using the '3 Rs' diverts waste materials from the garbage bin and therefore from being sent to a landfill.
The City of St. John's Waste Diversion Program primarily refers to the curbside collection program that will begin in 2010 for recyclable containers and fibres, and in 2011 for organic compostables.
