Pippy Park Maple Syrup Festival
Nothing says "Spring is coming" more than the sweet hobby of making your own maple syrup. Maple syruping has become a hot hobby in Newfoundland over the past few years. Due to the popularity of tapping maple trees, Friends of Pippy Park has upped our game for maple season this year. More than 10 on-site maple tapping tutorials are happening in the park this year, and that's just the beginning!
Come join us on April 2 at Pippy Park, where you can see the trees we've tapped and visit the new Community Maple Grove we are developing. We plan to have an evaporator and sugar shack on site as we grow this project!
The Teddy Bear Man, Terry Rielly, will be on hand to sing songs for us and celebrate, as will The Mobile Goats (goats love a hard-earned piece of maple taffy!). We will have complimentary hot chocolate on offer (bring your own mug if possible, please), and visitors can tour the tapped trees and get a short on-site tutorial about tapping their own maple trees. We will explain the process of making your own syrup, and have freshly made Pippy Park Maple Syrup available for free tastings.
If you're already an enthusiastic participant of maple syrup season, there's even more of a reason to come out. You'll get to connect with our ever-growing community of DIY maple makers, and discuss how this season's harvest turned out for you. We'll swap tips and stories, and the festival will wrap up with an informal 'tasting competition' where maple makers can enter their syrup to compare and contrast against others.
