Interested in history? Ever wanted to make comics? Join St. John’s illustrators Paul Tucker and Wallace Ryan for a unique workshop offered through the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Museum in partnership with Memorial University of Newfoundland.

This workshop will explore how artifacts, words, and images come together to record history and create new stories. This event is open to comics enthusiasts of all ages, no prior experience is necessary.

Come explore the historical artifacts of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Museum and find out the stories behind these objects and how these stories can be told through comics! On display will be other memorable comics art from such graphic memoirs as Mariam Katin’s We are On Our Own, Scott Chantler’s Two Generals, Jason Lutes’ Berlin, as well as Wallace Ryan and Paul Tucker’s war comics! Some comics made during in the workshop will go on public display at Memorial University in the new year.

This event, commemorating WWI’s centennial anniversary is made possible through generous donations from Memorial’s Public Engagement Fund and The WW100 Fund. Space in each session is limited and will be granted on a first come first serve basis. Parking is available at the Canadian Forces Station.

Please present one piece of government issued photo ID. For more information, please contact Irene Velentzas at ivelentzas@mun.ca or visit the Royal Newfoundland Regiment Museum website. We hope to see you there!
