On average, St. John’s receives 335 cm of snow each year. In the winter of 2000-2001 we measured our greatest total snowfall of 648 cm.
The City of St. John's budgets approximately $15 million each year for snow clearing and ice control operations.
The Winter On-Street Parking Ban usually begins the first Wednesday after New Year’s Day, however was implemented earlier in December 2016 due to significant snowfall amounts. The On-Street Parking Ban will be lifted 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 6, 2017.
Once implemented, the ban is in effect daily from 12:30 to 7:30 a.m. regardless of weather or street conditions. The ban is lifted in the early spring.
