On average, St. John’s receives 335 cm of snow each year. In the winter of 2000-2001 we measured our greatest total snowfall of 648 cm.
The City of St. John's budgets approximately $15 million each year for snow clearing and ice control operations.
The Winter On-Street Parking Ban usually begins the first Wednesday after New Year’s Day, however it may be implemented earlier if there is a significant snowfall and conditions dictate. If this occurs, it will be posted on this webpage, and promoted it on local and social media.
Once implemented, the ban is in effect daily from 12:30 to 7:30 a.m. regardless of weather or street conditions. The ban is lifted in the early spring.
In 2017 the ban is scheduled to come into effect at 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 4.
