The City of St. John’s receives an average of 322 cm of snow per year. To deliver a high level of service to the public, the City budgets approximately $15.9 million dollars per year for snow clearing and ice control operations. Ice control and snow clearing are very complex activities.
The Winter On-Street Parking Ban ususally begins the first Wednesday after New Years Day, however this date is subject to change if weather conditions dictate. The City will notify the public prior to this date. Once implemented the ban is in effect daily from 12:30 to 7:30 a.m. regardless of weather or street conditions.
The Winter On-Street Parking Ban is often lifted in the early spring. In 2016 the ban is lifted at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 31.
We will implement the ban before then if there is a significant snowfall. If this occurs we will post it on this webpage, and will promote it on local and social media.
