Healthy Communities

Healthy City St. John’s is about making small changes in our neighbourhoods that work to promote mental and physical health, strengthen capacity and create a sustainable healthy future for all.

Qualities of a Healthy City include but are not limited to:

  • supported action
  • engagement and community involvement
  • a strong economy
  • inclusion and diversity
  • mental health
  • safety
  • transportation
  • food
  • affordable housing
  • healthy lifestyles
  • clean water
  • a sustainable environment

The Healthy City movement began when the City of St. John’s recognized the success of other jurisdictions in Canada using a Healthy Communities approach to improve health outcomes, safety and inclusion. We strive to make the healthy choice the easy choice for all residents.
