Celebrate summer with St. John's

Enjoy the performances and entertainment at the Downtown Pedestrian Mall this weekend! Don't forget to explore more areas that are outside the mall and support local businesses in the area. New this year – George Street and sections of Duckworth Street are in the Downtown Pedestrian Mall this summer.
 
Friday, Aug. 6 

Lawnya Vawnya

Get a taste of what Lawnya Vawnya has in store for this year’s festival (taking place from August 25-28 in St. John’s), with pop-up musical performances from Kelly McMichael, Kira Sheppard, and Greta Warner.

Writers' Alliance of NL

2021 marks the 25th year of the Newfoundland and Labrador Book Awards so WANL is offering a 25 question NL writers’ quiz! Participants answer questions on their own cell phones (in order to adhere to public health guidelines) and winners will receive books from WANL members! We will also have a public poem, using a Flipboard, where passers-by contribute one line at a time. The final poem will be posted online for everyone to enjoy.

CMHANL will have a tumble prize! Walk up, ask for a spin, and get a self-care tip and a button! Visitors are also invited take a picture with the CMHANL sign and post to social media, and to learn more about CMHANL activities and programs.

The cast of Best Kind’s summer musical, How Do You Get to Jellybean Row?, will offer a sampling of what’s in store for the full-length show, happening at the Amphitheatre in Bowring Park this month!

Ahoy, Matey!! Pirates will be roaming about the Pedestrian Mall on Saturday afternoon! They will be on Duckworth Street from 2 to 3 p.m., and Water Street from 3 to 4 p.m.

The NSO will have their Brass Quintet performing classical, pop, and Broadway music from 12 to 2 p.m. on Saturday. They will also be providing information regarding the upcoming 2021-22 season. Come on down to the corner of Duckworth Street and Prescott Street to hear some tunes and grab some free NSO swag!

St. John’s Storytelling Festival

St. John’s Storytelling will be collecting short, family-friendly stories from people visiting the Pedestrian Mall. Come on down and receive a free St John's Storytelling Festival shirt in exchange for your story.

Old School Intergenerational Projects

Kick it ‘Old School’ this weekend with a local non-profit that seeks to connect generations through the arts! Old School Intergenerational Projects invites you to challenge your family or bubble to a giant ‘then and now’ memory matching game, or to design your own postcard using recycled materials.
