Wear Your Mask at City Facilities

COVID-19 Update
As announced by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Newfoundland and Labrador, as of August 24, 2020, non-medical masks must be worn in public indoor spaces.

  • Public access to City Hall is still by appointment only.
  • All public entering City facilities must wear a mask.
  • If a person identifies as being exempt for health reasons, they will be permitted to enter the facility and our staff will ensure safety protocols for interactions are taken.
  • Our Occupational Health and Safety team have developed protocols for staff working in our facilities regarding the wearing of masks. Please note that employees who are behind protective barriers are not required to wear masks unless they move from that protective space.

If you have an appointment at a City facility, please remember the following important pandemic precautions:

  • Stay home if you are sick or have been in contact with someone who has COVID-19
  • Use hand sanitizer when entering and exiting the building.
  • Maintain physical distancing of at least 2m or 6ft
  • Avoid touching your face, mouth, nose, and eyes
Important advice on non-medical masks:
Homemade and store-bought masks are permissible. Your mask should:
  • allow for easy breathing
  • fit securely to the head with ties or ear loops
  • be changed as soon as possible if damp or dirty
  • be comfortable and not require frequent adjustment
  • be made of at least 2 layers of tightly woven material fabric (such as cotton or linen)
  • be large enough to cover the nose and mouth completely and comfortably
  • not impair vision or interfere with tasks
  • not be shared with others
  • maintain its shape after washing and drying
