Winter is Coming...

It looks like the City of St. John’s may get its first taste of winter weather this week and our City crews are gearing up to keep our roads and sidewalks safe this season.

With snow and icy conditions forecast overnight and in the morning tomorrow (November 29), tonight is the perfect time to make sure that you and your family are ready for a wintry start to the morning.

Take the time now to locate those gloves, scarves and boots, as well as your shovels and ice scrapers. This will save you time in the morning and make your day less rushed as you may need that extra time to get to your destination safely.

Make sure your vehicle is completely clear of snow, ice and frost before setting off on your commute and be sure to keep an eye out for pedestrians. It is especially difficult for them to navigate on icy and slushy roads the morning when weather first hits and not everyone is completely prepared for the conditions. Please slow your speeds when you approach people walking near or in the roadway.

Pedestrians should always remember to walk facing traffic, but especially in snowy, icy and slushy conditions. Make sure you make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street.
