Youth of the Year Recognizes Our Youngest Leaders

Jack White

In 2019, the Junior Youth of the Year was Jack White, a grade nine student at Baconfield Junior High is an outstanding academic, leader, musician and volunteer.

A stellar student, Jack has extensively volunteered his time both at school, and in the community through the Global Leadership Team, Breakfast Program, school announcements, outdoor clean ups and events set ups. He spends time fundraising for thanksgiving food hampers and the Terry Fox run. Jack's awareness efforts include LGBTQ and anti-bullying campaigns.

His teacher said "what makes him really stand out as a student and young man is his big heart. Jack cares deeply for his teachers, fellow students, people in the community and his environment. There is no job too big for him and he welcomes every challenge with an eager disposition and a big smile."

Senior Youth of the Year for 2019 was Anna James, a grade 12 student at St. Bonaventure's College and on the Presidents Honour List maintaining above a 90 per cent grade average.

In the community Anna volunteered her time serving breakfast at The Gathering Place, Computers for Seniors Program, and taking a service trip to El Salvador. Among Annas many achievements are founding the nonprofit organization called "Share Music", Kiwanis Music Festival Vocal Rose Bowl winner, scholarship recipient, numerous speak off awards, and awards for the highest marks in the province for Conservatory Canada Theory, History and voice exams. “At such a young age, Anna has an excellent record of leadership but more than that she is a genuine person who truly cares about people, her school and her community.”
