Understanding the New Codes of Conduct

A comprehensive code of ethics for Councillors and City staff has been on the radar and in the news for many years now.

In 2018, the City received an independent report from the Honourable Clyde K. Wells, K.C. which recommended we repeal and consolidate various by-laws that applied to City employees and Councillors. A Code of Ethics By-Law was drafted and approved by Council in 2018, but we weren’t able to enact it due to limitations in the City of St. John’s Act.

A Discretionary Use application has been submitted by Prakash Properties Inc. for 24 Airport Road.

Description

The proposed application is for a Clinic Use that will have a floor area of approximately 140 m2 and up to five clinic rooms. Hours of operation will be Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The proposed lot will conform to the Industrial Commercial (IC) Zone requirements and parking will be provided. Layout and design will be subject to all City specifications.

Helicopter Rescue Services Moving to NLSARA

The Newfoundland and Labrador Search and Rescue Association (NLSARA) will now assume responsibility for offering helicopter rescues in the St. John’s region. This organization currently provides helicopter rescue to the rest of the province except for the St. John’s region. NLSARA has been a partner for many years in ground search and rescue with the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD).

Delayed Opening for City Buildings: Feb. 15

Due to the forecasted weather, the City of St. John's will delay opening its buildings on Wednesday, Feb. 15. This includes City Hall and all recreation facilities. An announcement will be made after 8 a.m. on the scheduled opening time.

The City apologizes for any inconvenience caused.

Waste Collection Schedule Changes Feb 15-18

Due to inclement weather, waste collection is cancelled for Wednesday, Feb. 15.

As a result, waste collection this week has a number of schedule changes:

Thursday, Feb. 16 – Area 2 and 3 and recycling for 2B and 3B
Friday, Feb. 17 – Area 4 and recycling for 4B
Saturday, Feb. 18 – Area 5 and recycling for 5B

Residents in Area 2 and Area 3 may experience wastes collected later than normal on Thursday, Feb. 16 due to the double day.

Residential Drop Off Closed February 15

Due to forecasted weather conditions, Robin Hood Bay Residential Drop Off (RDO) will be closed Wednesday, Feb. 15.

The Residential Drop Off will reopen Thursday, Feb. 16 at 8 a.m.

The Commercial landfill and recycling facility will be open Feb. 15, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The City of St John’s apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause.
