Building Safer Communities Grant Program |
The City of St. John’s will receive funding through Public Safety Canada’s Building Safer Communities Fund (BSCF) over a three year period to develop and facilitate a crime and violence strategy in collaboration with community partners and stakeholders.
As part of this work, the City has an opportunity to provide funding to community-based service providers to develop new prevention and intervention initiatives or enhance existing programs for children, youth, young adults, and their families in the City of St. John’s. These initiatives should address one or more of the following:
The deadline to submit a project application is 11:59 p.m. NST on Sunday, February 11, 2024. Successful applicants will have one year to complete their project (March 31, 2025). Funding AvailableThere is approximately $450,000 in grant funding available for the 2023-2024 fiscal year. The maximum amount that can be awarded to community-based service providers is $150,000. The City of St. John's supports non-profit groups and organizations seeking financial assistance. We will consider supporting educational, multicultural, recreational or inclusive programs and services. Activities must take place within the city. Heritage Financial Incentive program |
The City of St. John's aims to conserve significant heritage resources including buildings and streetscapes. The Heritage Financial Incentives Program assists property owners to maintain designated heritage buildings and homes. Properties in the City's Heritage Areas will also be considered. Two types of grants are available through this program:
Applications are available online and must be submitted to the City between March 1 and May 1 for the following calendar year. Meetings, conventions and sporting events |
The City of St. John's supports non-profit groups and organizations seeking financial assistance to host meetings, conventions, and sporting events within the city. The meeting, convention, or sporting event must have at least 75 percent of delegates, athletes, coaches, and/or officials from outside the province, in order to be considered eligible. Youth sport travel |
Travel funding is available to youth who are residents of St. John's and who won the right to take part in amateur championship sporting events. Funding for such travel is restricted to Atlantic, national or international events. Youth are up to 29 years of age and registered or attending a secondary or a post-secondary institution. Youth non-sport travel |
Travel funding assistance is available to youth who are residents of St. John's and are travelling out of province to attend formally sponsored symposiums, conferences, seminars, competitions, etc. The event should broaden horizons in education, culture, or social or political interests. Youth are up to 29 years of age and registered or attending a secondary or a post-secondary institution. Each applicant must complete and submit an application form with the required attachments.
