
The St. John's Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) is a professional emergency response organization. Our staff are dedicated to providing a high standard of service to the community we protect.
Being a firefighter is both challenging, physically demanding but very rewarding. It involves years of continuous education and training but protecting the lives and property of our residents creates a feeling of great satisfaction.
The City announces upcoming competition dates through social media. Follow the application instructions below to apply online. Completion of the Temporary Firefighter Application Form will be required. This form will be updated and posted ahead of the next competition.
NOTE: Review the 2025/2026 Firefighter Recruitment Guide for details on the required qualifications and hiring process. However please be advised for the 2026-2027 Recruitment a Class 3 driver’s license will no longer be a minimum requirement; however, successful applicants must provide an updated driver’s license showing their Class 3 within 24 months of their hire date. Obtaining this license, including all associated costs, is solely the responsibility of the employee. The City of St. John’s and the St. John’s Regional Fire Department will not provide or fund any training related to obtaining these endorsements, nor will they cover or reimburse any associated expenses.
