The City of St. John’s invites residents and businesses to provide feedback and ideas to support the development of new neighbourhood plans for the Rennie’s River, Central and Mundy Pond areas.
“As we look ahead to what’s next for these neighbourhoods, it’s important that the voices of the people who live and work there help guide the process,” said Councillor Maggie Burton, Planning lead. “We’re aiming to strike a balance between welcoming future growth while honouring the history and meeting the needs of each community.”
The neighbourhood plans aim to adapt and apply the objectives, policies, and planning approaches of the Envision St. John’s Municipal Plan to a local context. To shape these new plans, the City is gathering feedback on the following key points:
The Central and Mundy Pond neighbourhoods are being studied together, due to their close proximity and many shared characteristics. Neighbourhood boundaries can be viewed through MapCentre.
Engagement opportunities are open to all residents and businesses, with a particular focus on those living and working in the neighbourhoods. Additionally, the project team will connect with key committees, interested parties and local community groups. Engagement opportunities include:
Feedback will be collected until September 28. Findings will be shared with the public prior to the development of the final neighbourhood plans.

In addition, a pop-up event to discuss these neighbourhoods will take place on Saturday, September 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the St. John’s Community Market, 245 Freshwater Road (No registration required).

The City of St. John’s has a strategic direction to be a Sustainable City, planning for land use while preserving and enhancing the natural and built environment for residents. Neighbourhood plans play a key role in advancing this direction, and are a key part of the City’s action plan under the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF).
