After over 50 years of providing recreation and community programming, the current H.G.R. Mews Community Centre will officially close to the public on Thursday, August 28. To mark this milestone and celebrate its legacy, the City of St. John’s is offering several free events and activities for residents to enjoy one last time at the Mews.
The City will offer free swims on the following dates and times during the last week of operations.

Enjoy a drop-in, aquatic fitness class. This low to no-impact session includes high-energy movements in the water designed to boost cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, and muscle tone. No registration required.
Wednesday, August 27 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Book a 40-minute session by calling the Centre at 709-576-8499 or visiting in person at 40 Mundy Pond Road. Advance booking is required due to limited availability.
Celebrate the facility’s final day with a splashy send-off for your furry friend! Registration is required. Each registration is for one dog only. A maximum of three people may accompany the registered dog on deck (no joining the dog in the water). There is a maximum of 30 dogs per swim. Register online on RecConnect or you can register in person at the facility at 40 Mundy Pond Road.
Thursday, August 28:
The new H.G.R. Mews Community Centre is scheduled to open on September 15, 2025, with a grand opening celebration being planned later this fall. More details about the facility and opening events will be shared later this month. To learn more, visit StJohns.ca/NewMews.
