The City of St. John’s will be conducting roadside pruning operations from December 2025 to May 2026. This work supports our ongoing efforts to maintain the urban forest and ensure that roads and sidewalks remain safe and accessible for all residents, pedestrians, and drivers.
The focus of this work is to trim low branches that may obstruct pedestrian or vehicle movement. To maintain clear passage, branches will be pruned to a minimum height of 2.4 metres (8 feet) over sidewalks and 4.2 metres (14 feet) over roadways.
All pruning will follow recognized arboricultural practices. In most cases, branches will be shortened rather than removed entirely. Broken, dead or decayed material will be removed, and additional corrective pruning will be completed where needed.
Roadside pruning for the 2025–2026 season will occur in the following areas:
• Portugal Cove Road / New Cove Road / Kenna’s Hill
• Quidi Vidi
• Goulds
