The City of St. John’s will complete the final stage of the Water Street Infrastructure Project in 2026, part of a multi-year capital initiative to replace and rehabilitate water mains and sewer lines, along with combined sewer separation, on Water Street between Waldegrave Street and Prescott Street.
The final phase involves installing a cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) liner in the sewer system. This trenchless method renews aging pipes from within, reducing excavation, minimizing disruption and extending the life of the infrastructure.
Work will begin in April and be completed by late spring 2026. During this time, residents and businesses in the immediate area may experience temporary sewer service disruptions, minor traffic delays, and reduced on-street parking. The City and contractor will share more details as timing is confirmed for affected properties.
To stay informed, residents, property owners, and businesses in the area are encouraged to sign up to receive notifications about the impacts to your property and attend the upcoming information session. This is a drop-in session and no registration is required.
The City will work directly with businesses, property owners and operators to gather information about how each building connects to the City’s sewer line and respond to any questions or concerns as the project progresses. Shawn Butt, Water Street Business Liaison, can be reached at waterstreetliaison@stjohns.ca.
The City of St. John’s will make every effort to minimize disruptions and will provide updates on traffic, service interruptions, and project progress. You can follow progress for this project at EngageStJohns.ca.
