April 22 is Earth Day

Celebrate Earth Day

Earth Day has been celebrated on April 22 since 1970.

To recognize Earth Day this year, the City of St. John’s will partake in an Earth Day flag raising at City Hall at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 21.

Cruise Ship Norwegian Dawn Cancels Visit

Due to the presence of sea ice, the Norwegian Dawn – originally scheduled to arrive on Monday, April 24 – has cancelled her visit to St. John’s. The next ship scheduled to arrive in our port is the Silver Shadow, with 388 passengers, on June 6, 2023.

Repairs Planned for Historical Cantilever Bridge in Bowring Park

This summer, repairs are planned to rehabilitate the Cantilever Bridge in Bowring Park, with construction scheduled to begin in early May and be completed by the end of July.

The construction project involves concrete rehabilitation, graffiti removal, replacing handrailing, waterproofing and paving the bridge deck.

A heritage consultant was engaged to do a study and offer guidance for the rehabilitation project, in addition to an engineering consultant that was engaged to do structural design.

St. George’s Day Holiday City Schedule

Due to the St. George’s Day holiday on Monday, April 24, the weekly City Council meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 25 at 3 p.m.

Garbage and recycling collection will be collected on Monday.

All City paid parking by-laws are still in effect including paid parking regulations as Monday is not a Shops Closing holiday.

Public washrooms will be open at Bannerman Park, Bowring Park and Quidi Vidi Lake.

Cruise Ship Season Begins with the Norwegian Dawn

The City of St. John’s together with the St. John’s Port Authority and industry partners, look forward to an even brighter and busier cruise season in 2023.

After a two-year absence, the cruise industry made an encouraging return last year. This year, the Norwegian Dawn is the first ship scheduled to arrive in St. John’s, with approximately 3,000 passengers expected on April 24.
