Make a payment

There are five steps required to make a payment for your vehicle. You need to know your license plate and the zone number before you proceed to the pay station.

After you park, go to the nearest pay station and press any button to begin.
Select a payment method using the yellow buttons on the machine. Tap or insert your card. Tap is available for debit, mobile payment (Apple/Samsung/Google Pay) or credit card. You can insert your credit card if it is not a debit card, too.
Confirm your parking zone number. The zone number is posted on a sign near your vehicle and on each pay station. Stations will display the zone you are currently in.
Enter you license plate number. This is on the same screen as the zone confirmation in step two.
Choose the duration - the amount of time you wish to pay for parking - and confirm using the green button.
Make the payment either by tapping or inserting and removing your credit card. The station will ask you if you would like a receipt when the transaction is processed. You do not need to return to your vehicle with the receipt. You can print a copy if you want one.

Payment Methods

Pay stations accept:

debit (tap only)
mobile phone payments via tap (Apple/Samsung/Google Pay)
most major credit cards

The pay stations do not accept cash. The City of St. John's discontinued cash options for on-street parking (e.g. parking metres) due to vandalism.

Rates

Parking rates are $1.75 per hour in the downtown core and surrounding areas and $1 per hour in Churchill Square.

Time limits

Time limits in each zone range from two to four hours. Check for signs that indicates the maximum time limit for the area. After the maximum time expires, you must move your vehicle.
