Thanksgiving Day Holiday Schedule

Due to the Thanksgiving Day holiday on Monday, Oct. 10 all City offices and facilities will be closed.
The City Council meeting will occur on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 3 p.m. All Council meetings are available virtually at stjohns.ca/councilmeetings.
Please note:
- Waste and recycling will not occur on Monday, it will be collected on Tues. Oct. 11, along with regular Tuesday collection. Waste collection time may be later than usual as waste from two areas will be collected.

Visitor Information Services: Closed for Season

Effective Friday, Oct. 7 at 4:30 p.m., Visitor Information Services at the Welcome Centre, 348 Water Street, will be closed for the season with the exception of cruise ship visits. Visitors can contact the centre during the off season via email: tourism@stjohns.ca.
The Ocean Endeavor and the Amera cruise ships are scheduled to arrive on Sunday, Oct. 9. The Visitor Information Centre will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Improved Service Level: Pedestrian Activated Street Crossings

Today, Committee of the Whole voted to enhance snow clearing resources at 122 pedestrian street crossings. The recommendation will be referred to a future City Council meeting for a final vote.
The cost for more snow clearing resources is $270,015 for eight employees, one supervisor, two leased loaders and two light duty trucks.

Detour: Empire Avenue (Newtown Road to Little Street)

Motorists are advised that a detour will be in place on Empire Avenue from Newtown Road to Little Street Thursday, Oct. 6 to Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022 to facilitate road construction. Flag persons will be on site during construction.

Tely 10: Road Closures and Parking Restrictions

The Tely 10 Road Race takes place Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Motorists are advised to find an alternate route. Residents may be temporarily detained while race participants are passing. A detour will be in place and flag persons and race marshalls will be present during the race.

Youth Forum October 18: City Hall

On Tuesday, Oct. 18 the City’s Youth Engagement Working Group (YEWG) is a hosting a forum on youth-oriented municipal topics. The forum provides an opportunity for youth to network with each other and members of Council and learn more about the youth engagement efforts taking place at the City.
