Street Rehab - September 3 to 7

Contractors may be working on the following streets from September 3 to 7 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, heater scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation. Commuters may experience traffic delays in these areas:
Brier Avenue
Cavendish Square
Columbus Drive (near Thorburn Road intersection)
Cornwall Avenue
Gloucester Street
Kensington Drive
Application - 231 Main Road

The City has received an application to rezone 231 Main Road from the Residential 1 (R1) Zone to the Residential 3 (R3) Zone to accommodate four (4) residential units in the form of Townhouses. Townhouses are a permitted use in the R3 Zone. A Municipal Plan amendment is not required.

Labour Day Holiday 2024

Due to the Labour Day holiday on Mon. Sept. 2 all City offices and facilities will be closed.
Please note:
- Garbage and recycling collection will not occur on Monday, it will be collected on Tues. Sept. 3 along with the regular Tuesday collection. Waste collection time may be later than usual as waste from two areas will be collected.
- Street cleaning operations will occur as scheduled on Mon. Sept 2, starting at 10 p.m. Vehicles not removed during the time indicated will be ticketed.

Market on Water Event Cancelled Due to Weather

Please be advised that, due to the weather forecast, the Market on Water event scheduled for Thursday, August 29 at the Downtown Pedestrian Mall (DPM) has been cancelled.
However, there are still several exciting events lined up as we conclude the final DPM weekend of the year:
Friday, August 30- Music at Harbourside Park featuring Justin Fancy at 12:30 p.m.
- Pop-Up Performanceon the DPM featuring The Boogie Babes at 2:00 p.m.
- Music on Water on the DPM featuring Shanneyganock at 3:00 p.m.
Municipal Open House 2024

The City of St. John’s will be hosting a Municipal Open House on Sunday, September 15, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Residents will have the opportunity to visit various municipal buildings and get the inside scoop on how our city operates. This is a free family friendly event open to all ages.

Traffic Advisory - Overnight Work - Columbus Drive (Kenmount Road overpass)

Overnight work on the Columbus Drive (Kenmount Road overpass) will take place from 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 29 to 7:00 a.m. Friday, August 30. This is required to facilitate the installation of pipe across Columbus Drive. Signage will be in place and flag persons will be on site.

Construction Update in Memorial University Area

The City of St. John’s reminds students, parents, and staff of St. Andrews Elementary, Prince of Wales Collegiate, and Memorial University of ongoing construction in the area, which will impact traffic as schools reopen in early September.
Simultaneous construction on Elizabeth Avenue, University Avenue/Prince Philip Drive, and Allandale Bridge is essential to complete key capital projects ahead of the 2025 Canada Games.
