Motorists are advised that a portion of Main Road, near Viguers Road intersection, will have a temporary lane reduction in place. Temporary traffic signals and signage will be in place at the lane reduction. Flag persons will be on site during working hours. This lane reduction and detour is necessary to facilitate installation of storm sewer piping in this area. Motorists may encounter some delays.

Please be advised that the City of St. John’s live music and fireworks event planned for 8 to 10 p.m. on July 1 is cancelled due to the provincial fire ban which will remain in place across Newfoundland and Labrador until further notice. The use of personal/backyard fireworks is also strictly prohibited.

The City has received an application from Nidus Development Inc. to rezone land at 188 New Pennywell Road from the Residential 1 (R1) Zone and Rural (RUR) Zone to the Residential 2 Cluster (R2C) Zone for a thirty-two (32) unit Townhouse Cluster development. A Municipal Plan Amendment is also required to redesignate the rear of the property from the Rural District to the Residential District.

On June 25, St. John’s City Council approved a text amendment to the Envision St. John’s Development Regulations that will enable a greater variety of housing types in residential zones. The text amendment will support the City's action plan to stimulate housing growth, which is supported by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF).
Consultation for the text amendment took place during May. Feedback was received via email, through the Planning St. John’s webpage
