Updated Waste Collection Schedule - Feb 24

Waste collection originally scheduled for Monday, February 23 will now take place on Tuesday, February 24. Please note that recycling collection is cancelled for this week.

Snow Clearing Update - February 23, 2026

We’re making steady progress clearing streets citywide, but significant widening and snow removal is still needed in many neighbourhoods. Work is being continuously monitored and prioritized based on safety and need — there’s no need to call to request widening. We know that while our higher priority streets are in good condition, there is a lot of work to be done in various neighbourhoods.

Tonight, snow removal and/or widening is scheduled on 24 downtown streets from 11 p.m. Monday to 6 a.m....

Storm Update: Closure of City Facilities and Request to Limit Travel

The City of St. John's continues to address road conditions following significant snowfall over the past five days and ongoing poor weather.

City crews need the time and space to carry out cleanup efforts safely and efficiently. The City has been working closely with neighbouring municipalities, the Provincial Government, Memorial University and the College of the North Atlantic to coordinate operational decisions that help reduce traffic volumes across the region and support snow clearing...

Traffic Advisory - Cochrane Pond Road

Please be advised that Cochrane Pond Road, west of the Back Line, is closed due to heavy drifting and poor visibility.

This closure will remain in place until the weather subsides and crews can clear the area.

Recreation Facilities Closed – February 22, 2026

Due to weather conditions, all recreation facilities will remain closed on Sunday, February 22.

This includes:

• H.G.R. Mews Community Centre
• Paul Reynolds Community Centre
• Kenmount Terrace Community Centre
• Kilbride Lions Community Centre
• Southlands Community Centre
• Shea Heights Community Centre
• Winter Activity Centre at the Northbank Lodge in Pippy Park

Traffic Advisory - Galway Area

Please be advised that the following roads in the Galway area are closed due to heavy drifting and poor visibility:

• Beaumont Hamel Way (from Southlands Boulevard to 218 Danny Drive)
• Danny Drive (section next to the Trans-Canada Highway only)

This closure will remain in place until the weather subsides and crews can clear the area.
