Pet owners have a responsibility under the Animal Control Regulation By-Law to ensure the wellbeing of both pets and City residents. There are many things you can do to keep your pets safe and ensure the City of St. John’s is a safe and enjoyable place for all City residents.

Road Closure - Duckworth Street Eastbound Lane (from New Gower Street to Bate's Hill)

To facilitate the set up for the George Street Festival the eastbound lane of Duckworth Street (New Gower Street to Bate’s Hill), will now be closed August 1 at 12:00 noon Signage is in place and Flag persons will be on site.

Road Closure - Empire Ave (Newtown Rd to Mayor Ave)

Due to sewer line repairs, Empire Avenue between Newtown Road and Mayor Avenue, will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
Access will be maintained for local traffic only. All other traffic, including buses and emergency vehicles, will be detoured. Please expect delays.

Cruise Ships arrive August 2 and August 4

Two Cruise Ships are scheduled to arrive in the Port of St. John's this weekend. The Seabourn Quest with 462 passengers is scheduled to arrive at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 2, and depart at 5 p.m. on Saturday, August 3. The Norwegian Star with 3000 passengers is scheduled to arrive on Sunday, August 4, at 10 a.m. and depart at 7 p.m.

Fire Ban Lifted for Jurisdiction of SJRFD - July 31

The St. John’s Regional Fire Department wishes to advise all citizens that due to the Provincial Fire Hazard Rating being low, the fire ban, dated July 24, 2024, within the Region which includes the City of St. John’s, City of Mount Pearl, and Town of Paradise is lifted effective immediately. Open fires will be permitted, however, please check with your local municipality to confirm if a burning permit is required from this Department. Motorists are advised that Airport Road, from Major’s Path to Chinook Lane, will be closed from July 30 to August 2. The road will reopen at 6:00 p.m. on August 2. Access will be maintained for local traffic. Signage is in place and flag persons are on site.

Daily - 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. from August 1 to August 8, 2024
To facilitate the George Street Festival the eastbound lane of Duckworth Street (from New Gower Street to Bate’s Hill), will be closed daily from 6:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. August 1to August 8. The road closure will end 3:00 a.m. on August 8th.
