Council has approved over $1.8 million for Community and Capital Grants in 2026. This year, community grants total $1,368,800 and capital grants total $499,575, plus $97,929.49 in waived permit and development fees.

City Council voted to approve the capital budget for 2026, totaling $34,179,203, at the March 10, 2026, Regular Council Meeting.
Capital projects cover a wide range of services including transportation improvements, street/sidewalk repair/rehabilitation, water system projects, housing projects, capital grants to community groups, snow clearing equipment, recreational facilities and playground infrastructure.

The City of St. John’s is now accepting applications for the Heritage Financial Incentives Program.
The City’s Heritage Financial Incentives Program aims to conserve built heritage resources by assisting property owners with grant funding. Funding is available to owners of residential or commercial properties located within a Heritage Area, as well as to owners of designated Heritage Buildings.
