The City of St. John’s is reminding residents that dogs are not permitted on sports facilities (sports fields, tennis and basketball courts, or other fenced recreational facilities) whether on or off leash. These spaces are reserved for recreation and organized sports and maintaining them as dog-free areas helps ensure they remain safe and well-maintained.

Contractors will be working on the following street from May 11 to October 15 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, heater scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation. To facilitate filming for a television series, Quidi Vidi Road between Forest Road and Empire Avenue will be closed on either Monday, May 11 or Tuesday, May 12 from approximately 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. (the date is weather dependent).
Traffic for local residents, businesses and emergency services will be maintained.

The City has received an application from CGI Development Inc. to rezone land at 125 Southlands Boulevard from the Commercial Regional (CR) Zone to the Residential 2 (R2) Zone for a residential subdivision comprised of 86 Semi-detached Dwellings. A Municipal Plan Amendment is also required to redesignate the property to the Residential District. A portion of the property will remain in the Commercial District and Commercial Regional (CR) Zone.

The City is considering a text amendment to the Envision St. John’s Development Regulations to add “Dwelling Units on the 1st storey – properties 24 to 30 Duckworth Street” as a Permitted Use in the Commercial Downtown Mixed (CDM) Zone. This amendment was prompted by an application for a dwelling unit on the 1st storey at 30 Duckworth Street.

Work continues on the future roundabout at Portugal Cove Road, Major’s Path, and Airport Heights Drive.
To facilitate construction of a shared-use path west of the roundabout, the trail between Argus Place and Airport Heights Drive will be closed intermittently. As construction progresses, a full closure will be required to complete the work. Please note, the trail access at Argus Place will remain open throughout the project.
