Stay Fire Safe This Holiday Season

Fire safety is important at any time of the year, but with the extra distractions during the holiday season, it is especially important to be vigilant. Dry Christmas trees, colourful decorations and wrapped presents are all extra fuel for a potential fire into your home.

The holidays should be a time for celebration rather than tragedy and for this reason the SJRFD is urging people to be fire aware and stay fire safe.

City Schedule December Holidays 2024

Due to the upcoming holidays most City offices and facilities are closed;

• Noon on Tuesday, Dec. 24, re-opening on Friday, Dec. 27
• Noon on Tuesday, Dec. 31, re-opening on Thursday, Jan. 2

The next City Council meeting takes place at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14 and the next Committee of the Whole meeting will take place at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Ice Making at the Loop

City staff have begun making ice at the Loop. Please do not skate or walk on the ice surface until the opening is officially announced. The City will announce when the Loop is open for the season on our website and on social media.

Funding Announced for Public Transit Upgrades

Mayor Danny Breen was thrilled to join Joanne Thompson, Member of Parliament for St. John’s East, and the Honourable Fred Hutton, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, to announce public transit upgrades at City Hall today.

311 App Unavailable (December 18, 2024)

System maintenance is scheduled for the City's mobile app '311 St. John's' overnight tonight from 11:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Thursday, December 19.

The app will not be in service during this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Space in Adult and Seniors Recreation Programs

There is space in our recreation programs for adults and seniors: ballroom dance, bridge, social time, chess, rug hooking and oil painting.  

Beginner Ballroom Dance 

Includes primarily Foxtrot, Jive and Waltz. Intended for beginners and those wishing to improve basic skills. Note: partner required.
