Registration

Recreation registration happens seasonally and begins for St. John's residents on a specified date. Non-resident registration usually starts several days later.

Registration is completed through RECconnect only. Participants will receive a confirmation email from RECconnect once registered. The City does not request payment through email, text or third party applications.

We will make every reasonable effort to contact patrons when we must cancel or change a program. We announce cancellations. Sign up for electronic updates. Watch our helpful video on the registration process.

Open or Update Your RECconnect Account

Activate and/or update your RECconnect account at least 72 hours before registration. You can do this online, by calling us or by dropping into the H.G.R. Mews or Paul Reynolds Community Centres.

To create a RECconnect account, choose one of the following options. Please note that all City of St. John's residents must submit a proof of residency:

• On the RECconnect website choose ‘Create an Account' in the top right corner and follow the instructions

• drop in to the H.G.R. Mews Community Centre or the Paul Reynolds Community Centre

My Wish List

If you usually register for several programs at once or register for popular programs such as swimming or summer camps, you will want to use the wish list feature. There is no limit on the number of courses you can add to your wish list.

1. Before registration day, log into RECconnect and browse the available programs.
2. Once you see a course you intend to register for, click the Wish List button to the right of the course title. Now this program is in your wish list.
3. When registration opens, log in and go to your wish list. Click the 'My Cart' button near the top right and click the ‘Add from Wish List'. Now your shopping cart holds all the courses you selected.
4. Select the family member you wish to register in each course and add to your cart.
5. Go to the 'Checkout' to complete your registration. RECconnect will confirm the courses you've chosen if there is space available. The system lets you know if you are on the wait list for any of the selected courses.
6. Payment must be made using a credit card.

Frequently Asked Questions

What method of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, debit, or credit card. We need payment in full at the time of registration. We do not accept pre-authorized payments or post-dated cheques.

Can I get a refund?

Submit a refund/credit/program transfer application 14 days before the start date of the program or facility rental. After that, we can only issue a refund or credit for a medical reason which prohibits continued participation in the program. Send a medical note with the form before the program end date.

We do not issue refunds or credits for classes missed due to illness, lost or stolen passes, or requests submitted after the program end date. Submitting the request for refund form does not automatically guarantee a refund.

Please note, a non-refundable deposit is required per child:

• After School programs: $100 per child
• Summer day camps: $50 per child, per week

If you are requesting a refund for the September After School Program, submit a refund request prior to August 1. After School Program refunds for October through June must be submitted 30 days prior to the withdraw date. 

Do you charge for non-sufficient fund (NSF) cheques?

We charge a $20 fee on all NSF cheques.

Do you offer family discounts?

Families registering more than two children for the same program for a given week can apply for a family discount. You get 20% for the third and all subsequent children. Complete the form and submit before the program end date to get the family discount. Please check the course description to determine if a family discount rate is available.

Is your waitlist prioritized?

Our waitlist is not prioritized. If a spot becomes available, we email everyone on the waitlist and the fill the opening on a first come, first served basis.

Wait lists help us understand the demand for each program. When there are enough people on a wait list, we may be able to add another class. We fill new classes on a first-come, first-served basis.
