Today, Mayor Danny Breen was joined by The Honourable John Hogan, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, Tom Osborne, Member of Parliament for Cape Spear, Kim Keating and Karl Smith, Co-Chairs of the 2025 Canada Games Host Society, Catriona Le May Doan, Chair of the Canada Games Council, Gary Smith, EVP, Operations and Technology, Fortis Inc. and other partners to officially open the new Fortis Canada Games Complex.

Street Rehab - July 7 to 12

7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Contractors may be working on the following streets from July 7 to 12 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, heater scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation. Commuters may experience traffic delays in these areas:

Notice to Public - Quidi Vidi Slipway Replacement Project

Commencing July 5, 2025
To facilitate the Quidi Vidi Slipway Replacement Project, the public is advised that drilling for the geotechnical investigation will commence on July 5th. The public are asked to use caution and adhere to any signage in place.
Pedestrian access will be maintained.

Changes to Fire Risk Communication

To help reduce confusion and streamline communication, the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) will no longer issue separate fire advisories. Instead, we encourage all residents to regularly check the Provincial Fire Hazard Map provided by the Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture and to follow the associated guidelines.

Seniors Party in the Park Scheduled for July 16

The City of St. John’s is hosting its annual Party in the Park on Wednesday, July 16, from 1 to 4 p.m. on the lawn by the Bowring Park Bungalow. Party in the Park is a free event for seniors which includes local entertainment along with light refreshments, giveaways and more.
This year’s entertainers include Elaine Dunphy, The Boogie Babes, Paddy Burke and youth performer Brett Crane.
