Canada Day Fireworks Cancelled Due to Provincial Fire Ban

Please be advised that the City of St. John’s live music and fireworks event planned for 8 to 10 p.m. on July 1 is cancelled due to the provincial fire ban which will remain in place across Newfoundland and Labrador until further notice. The use of personal/backyard fireworks is also strictly prohibited.

The provincial fire ban prohibits the use of any fireworks, backyard firepits, chimineas, charcoal BBQs and open fires. Propane firepits and BBQs are permitted. The St. John’s Regional Fire Department are asking people to be fire safe when using propane firepits and barbeques, to keep a hose or fire extinguisher handy and follow manufacturers requirements regarding clearances from combustible materials.

The City of St. John’s other Canada Day festivities, including a family event and sunrise celebration, will proceed as planned.
