Access to Information and Protection of Privacy
The Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act, 2015 is legislated by the provincial government. It is designed to create a culture of openness and accountability in the public sector while protecting a citizen's personal information and a business's commercially sensitive information. It applies to all public bodies including municipalities.
The ATIPP Act has three purposes:
- To ensure citizens have the information required to participate in the democratic process.
- To increase transparency in government and public bodies so that elected officials, officers, and employees of public bodies remain accountable.
- To protect the privacy of an individual's personal information that is held and used by public bodies.As a member of the public, you have a right to access City records. Access to official records is part of being an accountable and transparent government.
