Outdoor Recreation Opportunities
There are plenty of ways to keep moving, stay connected, and have fun during all seasons. Explore the options below to find outdoor recreation opportunities available in our City.
The Loop
The Loop is an outdoor ice-skating trail located in Bannerman Park. The Loop opens for the season when temperatures are consistently low enough to make and maintain the ice surface. Call the Loop Line at 709-733-LOOP (5667) to learn if it is open.
Winter Activity Centre
Pippy Park campground is transformed into groomed trails suitable for both classic cross-country and skate skiing, as well as snowshoeing. Equipment rentals available! Call the Winter Activity Centre Snowline at 709-737-3651 to ensure trails are open.
Trail Explorers
This initiative provides a wonderful opportunity to explore the beautiful trails throughout the city, promoting health, wellness, and community connection throughout every season. Check out the full schedule and explore our City's trail network! Waiver required.
Outdoor Registered Programs
The City offers various outdoor recreation programs seasonally, from canoeing to archery to fire building, we offer opportunities for families, kids and adults. Check out what programs are available on ReConnect!
Trails
Both City staff and the Grand Concourse Authority maintain trails in St. John's. Check out our Trails webpage for information about our trails network, including maps, winter grooming and more.

Group Opportunities
The City offers opportunities to corporate, school and community groups to get outside and have fun. We also offer outdoor party rentals.
School & Community Programs
We offer beginner instruction in a range of outdoor activities led by certified instructors. We provide the space and equipment your group needs to enjoy any of our programs.
Activities vary by season and location. In spring and fall, programs take place at Rotary Sunshine Park; in winter, at North Bank Lodge in Pippy Park. Some activities are mobile and can come to your site.
Options include archery, hut building, fire making, orienteering, geocaching, slacklining, skiing, snowshoeing, paddle sports and more. Programs are available days, evenings, and weekends, and are suitable for all ages and abilities.
Cost: $6 per participant.

Corporate Programs
Is your business looking for a fun team building day? We offer a variety of on land, snow or water activities available for groups from 10 to 60 people. We can plan a half or full day of surprises or work with your company to create a custom program that will meet your needs.
Outdoor Birthday Parties
Outdoor parties are now available at Rotary Sunshine Park during the months of May, June, September and October. Participants can choose one activity from archery, shelter building, fire building, orienteering, and geocaching.
- Cost: $250
- Capacity: up to 25 guests (adult supervisors not included)
- Available time slots: two-hour bookings available which include, 1.5 hours of outdoor programming and 30 minutes at our indoor space.
