Recreation Support Services
Recreation Support Services to participate in our recreation programs may be available to eligible applicants.
The level of Recreation Support Services is determined based on an individual’s strengths, needs and level of independence and may include:
- Minor adaptations and accommodations.
- General Recreation Support Staff.
- Recreation ratio enhancement staff (children's summer programs only).
- One-on-one inclusion support staff provided by the City of St. John’s (resources are limited and registration required).
- Support and/or respite worker (provided independently/not provided by the City of St. John’s.)
Application Process
Complete the Recreation Support Services Application and return by the following deadlines. Participants seeking a City-provided one-on-one inclusion support staff and those who provide their own support and/or respite worker are required to apply through this process.
Deadlines:
- Spring programs and Spring Camp: February 1
- After school program: March 1
- Summer programs: March 17
- Fall programs: July 17
- Winter programs: November 17
Deadline dates occurring on a weekend or holiday are extended to the next business day. Staff will review the completed application and provide you with information about next steps, including how to register for the Recreation Support Services queue if applicable.
Based on the results of the Recreation Support Services queue, City staff will contact parents/guardians of the participant(s) by time stamped registration order to set up an intake meeting. Based on a review of the application, references and the results of the intake meeting, the level of support will be determined. Staff will advise you of next steps including program availability, support type, and available resources.
A space in the Recreation Support Services queue does not guarantee a City-provided 1:1 inclusion support staff or space in weeks of program of choice. This will be determined after the intake meeting.
