Outdoor Corporate Programs
The City of St. John’s offers a variety of on land, snow or water activities available for groups from 10 to 60 people at the Rotary Sunshine Park or Pippy Park. We can plan a day or work with your company to create a custom program that will meet your needs.
The activities listed below can be combined to create a full day or half day of fun team building challenges. Some activities are season or location specific. The Outdoor Fieldworkers will work with your company to find the best combination of activities to meet your goals for the day.
Canoeing
Consists of an on-land introduction to canoe safety and paddling strokes, followed by time spent on the water practicing. Once the basic maneuvering skills are mastered, instructors will introduce game and challenges to the group. Participants should come prepared to get wet (extra clothes and towel).
Kayaking
Consists of an on-land introduction to kayak safety and paddling techniques, followed by time spent on water practicing. Instructors will introduce challenges and games that require participants to use their new skills. Participants should come prepared to get wet (extra clothes and towel).
Paddle Board
Consists of an on-land introduction to safety and paddling techniques, followed by time spent on the water practicing. Participants will start by kneeling and work their way up to paddling while standing. As participants gain confidence we will introduce games. For larger groups ask about our giant team paddleboard! Participants should come prepared to get wet (extra clothes and towel).
Archery
Participants will learn safety aspects and basic techniques for target shooting and will take turns shooting and cheering on the other members of their team. We will introduce fun games and competitions as the session progresses. When you think you’ve mastered the range, feel free to challenge any of the instructors to a shoot off. This program generally takes place outdoors at Rotary Sunshine Park but can take place indoors year-round at sites approved by the Outdoor Team
Cross Country Skiing
Participants will learn the basics needed to enjoy a day on the trails. The program begins with demos, then participants are provided with the opportunity to practice their skiing techniques on groomed trails. This activity is offered exclusively at the Winter Activity Centre located in Pippy Park.
Snowshoeing
Participants will learn how to wear and maneuver in snowshoes. The program will cover safety precautions and the different skills associated with the techniques of snowshoeing on various terrain. Session will include a short hike or snowshoe games.
Shelter Building
Participants will learn how to construct debris shelters using available natural materials. Ensure to make your hut as waterproof as possible or you might get rained on. Participants should come prepared to get dirty. This activity takes place during spring, summer and fall at our Rotary Sunshine Park facility.
Orienteering
Learn how to read and follow a map as it pertains to your environment. Participants will use landmarks throughout the park to orient themselves to the map. Follow the map to find controls hidden throughout the park. Don’t be afraid to go off trail and search through the woods!
Geocaching
Participants will be introduced to the game of geocaching, a worldwide game of hide and seek. You will learn how to hide your own cache and how to find ones that others have hidden. This activity introduces team work and operational use of a GPS unit.
Fire Building
This program teaches participants how to safely and effectively build and extinguish a fire, while keeping environmental impact in mind. Instructors demonstrate construction techniques and then participants build their own fires in small groups.
Outdoor Cooking
Participants are offered the opportunity to work together to cook a meal. Meal planning, preparing ingredients, operating camp stoves, and cooking the meals will be covered. Groups are responsible for providing their own food. Recipes can be provided upon request.
Biking
Looking to arrange a family event? This activity is great for children. Our instructors will set up courses to teach riders different skills and safety procedures. Once riders are comfortable with the skills we will move on to games and a group ride. Families must supply their own bikes and helmets.
Packages & Prices
We will meet to discuss the goal of your company, then you will leave all the planning to us. The Outdoor Team will put together a day full of adventure and challenge. Activities can be done on land, on water or on snow, depending on the season.
Groups may supply their own food or arrange for catering. If your company choses the outdoor cooking option, food arrangements will be discussed with the Outdoor Team in advance. Catering options may be included in your package upon request. Alcohol is not allowed on site.

Extras, such as food and transportation, may also be added to your package for a fee. Payments must be made in full prior to the day of the event.
