We offer a variety of programs and events to help keep seniors (50+) active, engaged, and socially connected.

Programs & Events

Active for Life

This fall prevention fitness class will help older adults improve balance and flexibility to decrease the risk of falls.

Seniors in the Community

Interact with peers and participate in an array of recreational activities, such as gentle fitness, games and occasional outings. These programs are offered in the fall, winter and spring at various seniors' apartment buildings in the city to ensure that transportation is not a barrier. If you are interested in having recreation programs at your building, please contact the Adult and Seniors team at 709-576-8490, 709-576-5701 or 709-576-8411.

Social Time

Join us for Social Time at select recreation facilities. Socialize with friends while enjoying leisure activities, light refreshments and snacks.

Lifelong Learners

Our Lifelong Learners program offers general interest courses on a variety of topics. Pre-registration is required for these courses.

Bus Tours

Get active, socialize, and travel to new or familiar places! Summer bus tours visit attractions and interesting places around St. John's as well as throughout the Avalon Peninsula. Registration for outings must be completed at least one week prior to the event, and the registration fee includes transportations, lunch and admission.

Special Events and Outings

A variety of special events and outings are held throughout the year for older adults. Our events are a great way to become active and socialize. Registration for special events and outings is required and includes transportation, entertainment and meals. Prices vary. Please call 709-576-8594 the evening before the event to determine the bus schedule. For many of our special events, we will pick you up. Locations that we pick up from include the following:

Note: If the bus cannot fit in the parking lot it will park at the entrance of the lot.

Seniors Day

Seniors Day is an annual event that celebrates seniors in our city. This event includes exhibitors, information sharing, refreshments and entertainment. For more information, visit our event page.
