Motorists are advised there will be a temporary lane reduction and lane diversion, as well as sidewalk closure, on MacDonald Drive between Quebec Street and Toronto Street. This is to facilitate work of the Crosstown Shared-Use Path project. Signage will be in place and flag persons will be on site. Slowdowns and delays will be experienced. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes whenever possible.
Contractors may be working on the following streets from June 29 to July 4, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, heater scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation.
Take notice that St. John’s Development Regulations Amendment Number 76, 2026, adopted on May 19, 2026, has been registered by the Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs.
To facilitate paving and related remediation work, lane closures will be in place northbound on Columbus Drive near Kenmount Road, tentatively starting Tuesday, June 30. The work is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete (weather pending).
The splash pads at the Kenmount Terrace Community Centre and Bannerman Park will open for the season today, Friday June 26. The splash pad at Bowring Park will also be operational with the opening of the outdoor pools at Bowring and Bannerman Park on Thursday, July 2.
The City is considering amending Section 4.10(1) of the Envision St. John's Development Regulations respecting buffers for waterways and tributaries. The purpose of this amendment is to clarify how waterway buffers apply where streams or tributaries enter bridges or culverts.
To facilitate the Tely 10 Road Race, road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect on Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28.
The City is considering an amendment to the Envision St. John's Development Regulations to add a new definition called "Harbour Use" which is specific to marine-industrial activities surrounding the St. John's Harbour. The proposed amendment would allow Harbour Uses within the Industrial General (IG) Zone and would also allow Harbour Uses within floodplains and floodplain buffers at Council's discretion.
The Office of the City Clerk is seeking expressions of interest from individuals representing a Federal Crown Corporation involved in housing solutions.
The Affordable Housing Working Group is responsible for providing advice to Council regarding housing system related policies, directives and strategies as well as implementation of the 10-year Affordable Housing Strategy, 2019 to 2028. In implementing the Strategy, the Working Group is to consider relevant City policies and activities which impact the Strategy and ensure communication with the appropriate parties. The working group will ensure that there is a comprehensive understanding of housing, affordable housing and homelessness issues and initiatives.
The City of St. John’s is hosting its annual Party in the Park on Wednesday, July 8, from 1 to 4 p.m. on the lawn by the Bowring Park Bungalow.
