The Evacuation Preparedness Alert for the Paddy’s Pond Industrial, Galway and Southlands areas has been lifted effective immediately. The alert in neighbouring communities in Paradise and CBS has also been lifted.

The southern portion of Fowler’s Road is closed today as ground crews continue suppression efforts on the Paddy’s Pond fire.

The Evacuation Order for Paddy’s Pond Industrial Area, including Akita Equipment and surrounding buildings, hangers, Cochrane Pond Family Campground, Country Ribbon Chicken Farm, Sod Farm and the Forestry Depot, has been lifted effective immediately. 

On Saturday, August 16, the Downtown Pedestrian Mall will take on a whole new energy as the 2025 Canada Games criterium cycling event races through the heart of our city from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Contractors may be working on multiple streets from August 18 to 23 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs.

The nomination period for the 2025 Municipal Election is August 28 to September 4 at 4 p.m. The last day to withdraw a nomination is Friday, September 5 at 4 p.m.

To facilitate the criterium cycling event for the 2025 Canada Games, there wil be road closures and parking restrictions on Saturday, August 16 from 5 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The City of St. John’s advises that Rotary Sunshine Park will be closed from noon on August 14 to 1 p.m. on August 15 to facilitate the 2025 Canada Games Open Water Swim.
