The City of St. John’s is pleased to announce it has reached a collective agreement with its CUPE Local 569 employees. The agreement was ratified by employees on August 12, 2026, with City Council ratifying it at the August 25 Council meeting.
The City of St. John’s released its 2025 Executive Summary Report on Revenue and Expenditure at the August 25, 2026 Council Meeting, reporting an operating cash surplus of $6.7 million on an adjusted budget of $378.2 million. The surplus represents 1.8 per cent of the City’s annual operating budget. The report, which is presented using the same cash-based accounting method used to prepare the City’s budget, provides an overview of how revenues and expenditures compared to budget expectations in 2025.
The Office of the City Clerk is seeking expressions of interest to fill one vacancy on the Anti-Racism Working Group in the following category: Residents with relevant lived experience and connections to diverse communities.
The Office of the City Clerk is seeking expressions of interest from a public representative (or their caregiver) to serve on the Seniors Advisory Committee.
The City has received an application from KMK Capital Holdings ULC to rezone land at 18 Mount Cashel Road from the Residential 2 Cluster (R2C) Zone to the Apartment 1 (A1) Zone to accommodate two Apartment Buildings. A Municipal Plan amendment is not required.
To help residents stay informed about road maintenance activities, the City will provide updates on pavement marking work planned in higher traffic areas.

The City of St. John’s wishes to advise residents that work to connect the Grand Concourse Virginia Trail from Durness Street to McNiven Street will begin the week of August 24.
Contractors may be working on the following streets from August 24 to 29 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, heater scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation. Commuters may experience traffic delays in these areas.
A Discretionary Use application has been submitted at 19 Allandale Road.
