To facilitate work for the Water Street Rehabilitation Project, a detour will be in place on Water Street from Waldegrave Street to Bishop’s Cove. There will be no on-street parking, however, access to parking lots will be maintained. Emergency access and bus routes will be maintained. Flag persons will be on site.
On March 31, a report was presented to Council at the Committee of the Whole outlining progress on the City’s strategic plan as well as the draft plan for 2026.
The St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) anticipates posting a job competition in early September 2026.
Due to the Good Friday holiday on Friday, April 3, most City offices and facilities will be closed.
The City of St. John’s will complete the final stage of the Water Street Infrastructure Project in 2026, part of a multi-year capital initiative to replace and rehabilitate water mains and sewer lines, along with combined sewer separation, on Water Street between Waldegrave Street and Prescott Street.

Due to forecasted high winds, curbside waste collection is cancelled for Friday, March 27, 2026. Collection will take place on Saturday, March 28.
Residents are reminded that garbage placed at the curb for collection must be completely covered from April 1 through November 30. Acceptable methods include using nets or containers (metal or plastic) with tightly closed lids.
