The City of St. John’s is taking another step to support the development of affordable housing by launching its first Request for Proposals (RFP) under a new Land Disposition Program. The RFP invites qualified non-profit organizations, charities and development partnerships to submit proposals for the development of affordable housing on City-owned land at 23-31 Plymouth Road.
To facilitate the Uniformed Services Run, motorists are advised of the lane reductions and road closures in the Bowring Park and Waterford Valley area on Sunday, September 13, 2026
Crews will work overnight between 11 p.m. on Friday, September 11 and 7 a.m. on Saturday, September 12 to transition the intersection of Portugal Cove Road, Major’s Path and Airport Heights Drive from a signalized intersection to a roundabout. During this time, traffic can continue to flow through the intersection.
A Discretionary Use application has been submitted at 60 Barachois Street. The proposed application is a Home Occupation for a hair salon. The hair salon would occupy a floor area of approximately 12.1m² and would operate by appointment only from Monday to Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. On-street parking is available.
To facilitate construction, access to Major’s Path from the Portugal Cove Road, Major’s Path, and Airport Heights Drive intersection will be closed from 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 10 to 6 p.m. on Friday, September 11.
Due to required maintenance, a section of the Bowring Park playground will be closed Wednesday, September 9 and Thursday, September 10. The area includes the pea stone surface with climbing equipment.
A Discretionary Use application has been submitted for 1 Queen Street.
Contractors may be working on the numerous streets from September 8 to 12 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, heater scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation.
Take notice that St. John’s Development Regulations Amendment Number 77, 2026, adopted on August 11, 2026, has been registered by the Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs.
In general terms, the purpose of St. John’s Development Regulations Amendment Number 77, 2026, is to allow Accessory Buildings in front of the building line in Rural Zones at Council’s discretion, and increase the maximum height of Accessory Buildings in Rural Zones and Backyard Suites in Rural Residential Zones.
