Fire Chief Sherry Colford of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD), along with representatives from the City of St. John’s, City of Mount Pearl, Town of Paradise and IAFF Local 1075 will officially welcome 14 new firefighter recruits today, Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Central Fire Station.

The St. John’s Regional Fire Department and City crews are responding to a fire at Robin Hood Bay. Environment Canada has issued an air quality statement for the area.
Contractors may be working on the following streets from June 15 to 20 under the City’s annual streets rehabilitation and infrastructure maintenance programs. Work could include concrete/street excavation, concrete work, paving, heater scarifying, utility adjustment, ditch cleaning and culvert installation. Commuters may experience traffic delays in these areas.
Beginning today, the Grand Concourse Association will be installing solar lighting along the south side of the Quidi Vidi Lake Trail, from the Boathouse to The Boulevard.
Motorists are advised there will be a temporary lane reduction and sidewalk closure at Circular Road and Bannerman Road to facilitate work of the Kelly’s Brook Shared-Use Path – Carpasian Road to Bannerman Road project. Signage will be in place and flag persons will be on site. Slowdowns and delays will be experienced. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes whenever possible.
Motorists are advised that the following road closures/lane reductions will be in place on Sunday, June 14 from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. to facilitate the Mews Memorial 8k Road Race.
