Canada Day Fireworks Cancelled Due to Provincial Fire Weather Index
The Canada Day fireworks display has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled due to the provincial Fire Weather Index.
The display, originally scheduled for Wednesday, July 1 at Quidi Vidi Lake, was postponed after the provincial Fire Weather Index placed the St. John’s area in the yellow (high) category, which prohibits the use of fireworks. The Fire Weather Index remains in the yellow (high) category for the region on Thursday, July 2.
This event cannot be rescheduled due to the significant coordination, logistical requirements, and vendor availability involved in safely delivering a fireworks display. Combined with the unpredictable nature of the Fire Weather Index and ongoing fire safety concerns, it is not feasible to identify and deliver a new date.
The City of St. John’s apologizes for the inconvenience.
