Canada Day/Memorial Day Events Announced
Annually the City of St. John's hosts Canada Day celebrations on July 1. All Canada Day events are accessible, and all activities are free of charge.
Sunrise Event (6 a.m. to 7 a.m.)
Be among the first in the country to start the Canada Day celebrations. The day begins with the Sunrise Event at 6 a.m. at Signal Hill National Historic Site. A free, wheelchair accessible Metrobus Shuttle will bring you from the Signal Hill Visitor Centre up to Cabot Tower. After the return shuttle, join everyone for free birthday cupcakes at the Signal Hill Visitor Centre.
Family Fun and Entertainment (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.)
An afternoon of free family fun and entertainment will take place at King George V Park (at the head of Quidi Vidi Lake) from 1 to 5 p.m. The event will include bouncers, a cultural concert, an interactive cultural space, disc golf, a scavenger hunt, temporary tattoos, Canada Day drumming, free birthday cupcakes and engaging activities for all ages. Please remember to bring a non-perishable food item or monetary donation for the Community Food Sharing Association. The inclement weather location is the Techniplex, 39 Churchill Avenue. Please note that pets are not permitted at King George V Park or in the Techniplex.
Live Music and Fireworks Show (8 p.m. to 10 p.m.)
The evening will be sure to entertain with a live concert featuring Celtic Connection at the Quidi Vidi Bandstand at 8 p.m. followed by fireworks at 10 p.m. Should weather conditions not be ideal, the fireworks will be rescheduled for July 2 at 10 p.m. Pet owners are reminded to keep their pets inside during the fireworks display.

Accessibility features of this event:
- For the Sunrise celebration, a free wheelchair accessible Metrobus shuttle will bring patrons from the Signal Hill Visitor Centre up to Cabot Tower.
- Accessible parking spaces for afternoon and evening events at Quidi Vidi Lake will be available in the Dominion parking lot, close to Clancy Drive.
- Gender-neutral, family-friendly, and accessible washrooms will be available on site.
- The GoBus drop-off and pick-up location for afternoon and evening events at Quidi Vidi Lake is the Dominion parking lot (20 Lake Avenue) near Carnell Drive. The GoBus must be booked in advance.
- Lighting may be dim in the evening. Patrons are welcome to bring a flashlight.
- The evening concert at the Quidi Vidi Bandstand is accessible by using the major pressed gravel path around Quidi Vidi Lake.

Memorial Day Events
While July 1 is a day of celebration across the country, for Newfoundland and Labrador it is also Memorial Day, a day of remembrance.
The Royal Canadian Legion Newfoundland and Labrador organize a Memorial Day Parade that begins at the Sergeants’ Memorial on Queens Road at 9:50 a.m. on July 1. The Memorial Day ceremony takes places at 10:45 a.m. at the National War Memorial. For more information about the ceremony please contact Provincial Command by calling (709) 753-1054.
