City Awards Over $1.8M in Community and Capital Grants for 2026

Council has approved over $1.8 million for Community and Capital Grants in 2026. This year, community grants total $1,368,800 and capital grants total $499,575, plus $97,929.49 in waived permit and development fees.

The City of St. John's Grants and Subsidies Program provides financial support and other resources to nonprofit organizations and individuals whose initiatives align with and advance the City’s strategic priorities.

“We’re honoured to invest in the community groups, organizations and artists whose dedication and creativity shape St. John’s into an inclusive and thriving city,” said Jill Bruce, lead Councillor for Community Services. “Their work continues to make a meaningful difference in our communities, supporting creativity, connection, and a strong sense of belonging. It’s inspiring to see new applicants stepping forward this year, bringing fresh ideas and energy to the grants program.”

This year’s Community Grant program provides assistance to 132 community organizations and 62 individual artists, with 48 new recipients.

Community grant applications are received in the following categories:

  • Community Organizations
  • Special Events and Festivals
  • Sporting Organizations
  • Artist and Arts Organizations

For 2026, seven organizations received Capital Grants, which are awarded to eligible applicants for capital purchases, such as building repairs or construction.

Applicants are reviewed by the internal grants committee while grants to artists are reviewed by a jury of their peers.
