The City of St. John’s invites residents and businesses to share their thoughts on the initial recommendations for new neighbourhood plans for the Rennie’s River, Central and Mundy Pond areas.

“Last September, community members took the time to share what matters most to them,” said Councillor Tom Davis, lead for Planning. “We’ve used that feedback to inform the draft recommendations, and now we’re returning to residents to make sure we’re moving in the right direction.”

The neighbourhood plans aim to adapt and apply the objectives, policies, and planning approaches of the Envision St. John’s Municipal Plan to a local context. To shape these plans, the City is gathering feedback on the following:

• Mix of land uses
• Height and density of development
• Transportation
• Open spaces
• Protection of natural and cultural heritage features

The Central and Mundy Pond neighbourhoods are being studied together, due to their close proximity and many shared characteristics. Neighbourhood boundaries can be viewed through MapCentre.

Engagement opportunities are open to all residents and businesses, with a particular focus on those living and working in the neighbourhoods. Additionally, the project team will connect with key committees, interested parties and local community groups. Engagement opportunities include:

• Submit ideas at EngageStJohns.ca through the project page for the Rennie’s River neighbourhood and the Central and Mundy Pond neighbourhoods;
• Complete the Rennie’s River survey and/or the Central and Mundy Pond survey;
• Attend an open house session:

Feedback will be collected until March 15, 2026. These findings inform the development of the final neighbourhood plans.

The City of St. John’s has a strategic direction to be a Sustainable City, planning for land use while preserving and enhancing the natural and built environment for residents. The Rennie’s River, Central and Mundy Pond neighbourhood plans play a key role in advancing this direction.
