Construction Update in Memorial University Area
The City of St. John’s continues to make progress on key construction projects in the Memorial University area. Updates on construction projects are noted below:
Elizabeth Avenue Shared-Use Path and Road Improvements
- Elizabeth Avenue, from Freshwater Road to Paton Street, has reopened.
- Localized lane closures may be required periodically in the coming weeks to finalize construction work.
- Construction is scheduled to be completed by November 2024.
University Avenue/Prince Philip Drive Storm Sewer Upgrades
- Work is in progress from approximately 118 University Avenue to the Prince Philip Drive intersection.
- University Avenue, between Prince Philip Drive and Paton Street, is closed to traffic until 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21 due to ongoing construction.
- Local access will be provided to properties located between Paton Street and the construction site; however, there will be no passage through the construction site. There will be no access from Prince Philip Drive.
- Signage will be in place and flag persons will be on site. Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route.
- Construction is scheduled to be completed by November 2024.
Lambe’s Lane/Fortis Canada Games Complex
- Construction work continues.
- No pedestrian or bicycle traffic is permitted in this area – authorized construction personnel only.
- Paid parking at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church will be maintained during construction.
Allandale Road Bridge Rehabilitation
- Work has been completed.
- Effective Monday, October 7, vehicle and pedestrian traffic has been restored to normal.
Please continue to plan your routes, expect delays, and allow extra travel time. Please be patient and adhere to all signage and instructions from flagpersons. Pedestrians are also reminded to stay clear of work sites.
