Evaluating Pilot Project for Planning Applications

Today, evaluation has begun on the Planning Applications Webpage Pilot Project that launched in June 2022, to improve accessibility and transparency for planning applications, development regulations and the municipal plan.

To participate in the public engagement process you can:

The Planning Applications Webpage is a one-stop location where residents can view and provide input on the status of planning applications as they move through the City’s approval process. The purpose is to allow easy access to all information related to planning applications.

The webpage also includes information about applications for amendments to the St. John’s Municipal Plan and Development Regulations, such as map amendments (re-zonings) and text amendments (changing the development policies or development standards).

There were 13 applications posted during the pilot project including 110 Cheeseman Drive, 110 Hebron Way/15 Verafin Way, 366-374 Empire Avenue, 20 Janeway Place, and 4 Merrymeeting Rd and multiple Text Amendments.

Features of the web page include:

  • Links to decision notes, amendments, and land use reports.
  • Status of applications as they move through Council approval process.
  • A new way to provide input to inform Council decisions for current applications.
  • Frequently asked questions to learn about City planning.
  • A comments section when an application is open for public consultation.

Your feedback is important, whether you used the site or not. The survey will be open for two weeks.

Once evaluation is completed a recommendation on whether to continue with the pilot will be presented to at a future Committee of the Whole meeting. Recommendations will be based on what was heard during this evaluation, and feedback from Council and staff.
