Everyone Welcome Swim with Sound Symposium Intimate Aquatic
Experience a unique underwater musical performance during this Everyone Welcome Swim. In partnership with Sound Arts Initiatives and Sound Symposium XXII, composer Nick Bendzsa has created Intimate Aquatic: Music for the Public Pool, a 30-minute sonically and physically immersive sound art installation for public pools, which will be presented twice during each swim.
Music will be played through quadraphonic pool deck speakers above the water and a submerged underwater speaker, allowing swimmers to explore two different ambient soundtracks - one above and one below the water’s surface. Audience members are invited to float quietly while experiencing this one-of-a-kind sensory performance.
Experience this unique work at the following Everyone Welcome Swims:
- Friday, July 17 from 4 to 4:50 p.m. (presented at 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.)
- Monday, July 20 from 4 to 4:50 p.m. (presented at 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.)
Regular drop-in admission rates apply.
Please note that this event will include audio recording using an underwater microphone. By participating in this swim, individuals acknowledge and consent to the possibility that they may be captured in the recording, including any sounds they make. The recording is intended to capture the musical performance, and all reasonable efforts will be made to protect participant privacy. Any incidental conversations or personal information captured will be removed and will not be included in the final recording.
