Funding Now Available for Heritage Maintenance and Conservation

If you own a house or commercial property in a Heritage Area or if you own a designated Heritage Building, the City of St. John’s is now accepting applications for maintenance or conservation funding.

The City’s Heritage Financial Incentives Program aims to conserve heritage resources by assisting property owners with grant funding available each year. Since the incentive program began in 2016, over $354,000 in grant funding has been awarded to 137 successful applicants.

Two types of grants are available:

  • Heritage Maintenance Grant - up to 25 per cent of the material and labour costs to a maximum of $1,000 for maintenance and repair to façade elements bordering a public street.

  • Heritage Conservation Grant - up to 25 per cent of the material and labour costs to a maximum of $5,000 for the preservation, restoration and/or replacement of façade elements bordering a public street.

Applications will be accepted until May 1, 2024.
